So, you’ve identified stonewalling in your relationship… what now?

In this episode, I’m joined by my partner in crime, Jon, to talk about how stonewalling has shown up in our marriage. Recently, I sprung it on him that I wanted to take a month-long trip. Turns out that communicating our intentions and expectations for this trip was a little challenging, and what did that lead to? You guessed it: stonewalling.

You’re going to hear how Jon and I have healthy conversations about things that once would have caused huge arguments and hurt feelings in our relationship. Miscommunication from time to time is inevitable, but I want to give you the tools you need to prevent those miscommunications from blowing out of proportion.

If you don’t know what stonewalling is, the last episode of the podcast was all about it, so you might want to go back and catch that one before this one.

In This Episode, You’ll Discover:

  • What stonewalling can look like in a real relationship
  • How to improve your communication
  • How to work through stonewalling in a healthy way
  • Why stonewalling isn’t always intentional
  • The problem with hoping your partner will tell you what they want
  • How to avoid setting your partner up for failure
  • The importance of communicating your intentions and expectations

The point of this episode is for you to hear what a healthy conversation can sound like when you’re dealing with stonewalling in your relationship. Sometimes stonewalling can be used intentionally to manipulate someone, but a lot of the time it’s the unintentional result of trying to avoid conflict.

I hope that this episode and the last one help you identify stonewalling and enable you to talk about it in a healthy way.
